taraIn an era where artificial intelligence can attempt to recreate our departed loved ones, we face unprecedented psychological challenges for our children. While adults might understand the artificial nature of these “grief companions,” children’s developing minds may struggle to distinguish between digital reconstruction and reality. This talk explores the emerging phenomenon of AI griefbots and their particular impact on young people’s grief processing and emotional development. As we acknowledge the potential for AI to be used in comforting those in mourning, we must ensure we’re not inadvertently creating new forms of psychological distress for our most vulnerable population.
