Who Should Join
We invite a diverse network of partners to build with us, especially those who have been historically overlooked: leaders from regions and cultures often left on the margins, youth, elders, and individuals with disabilities. We welcome not only individual organizations but also existing networks whose voices and efforts deserve amplification and support. We are committed to a diverse network of:

What to Expect as an Affiliate
The global network is a core part of SHIELD’s impact, where we will actively work to support and empower our affiliates through regular activities such as:
- Speed networking
- Amplification of your stories, innovations, and experiences through Voices of SHIELD
- Support with global and regional advocacy
- Assist with in-person events in affiliate geographies
- Affiliate-internal knowledge exchange and workshops
- Focus groups that bring together individuals and organizations doing similar things in different geographies
- Sharing of affiliate events or other materials that could benefit others
We bring people together to co-design solutions, share resources, and build meaningful partnerships. We connect globally while honoring local realities, amplify voices, and foster cross-sector collaboration to create stronger, more inclusive systems shaped by diverse perspectives.
Types of Affiliates
There are two categories of Affiliates: Regular and Vetted Project Affiliates.
- Regular Affiliates: Open to all who support SHIELD’s mission
- Vetted Affiliates: For those interested in deeper collaboration on specific initiatives
Admission as an Affiliate requires an application through our website.

There is no fixed time requirement. Affiliates engage at their own pace, depending on their interests, availability, and the opportunities that arise within the network.
Absolutely. SHIELD encourages cross-network collaboration and welcomes Affiliates who are active in other aligned efforts.
Affiliates often connect to co-develop projects, share resources, exchange knowledge, or explore joint funding opportunities. SHIELD helps facilitate these connections.
No. Affiliates maintain full independence. SHIELD may support or highlight collaborative efforts, but does not control or manage Affiliate initiatives.
Yes. Individuals with relevant experience, passion, or lived expertise in digital safety are welcome to apply.
Your application will be reviewed for alignment with SHIELD’s mission and values. If approved, you’ll receive a welcome message and access to the private network group.
No. What matters most is your alignment with SHIELD’s mission and your willingness to engage constructively in the network.
No. Affiliates are collaborators, not part of SHIELD’s governance. However, they are regularly informed about relevant opportunities and invited to participate in open initiatives.
Interaction is flexible and varies. Some Affiliates engage regularly through events or projects, while others participate occasionally based on interest and availability.
