In May 2022, a male relative enrolled a 12-year-old girl, a 7th-grade student, in a three-year Byju’s tutoring course costing Rs 93,000, taking a loan option offered by the company after being told he could cancel within 15 days for a full refund. The student left the course after ten days when she was assigned teachers for four subjects instead of six. According to the report, the relative received only a Rs 5,000 refund, his first-month payment of about Rs 7,700 was not refunded, and his request to close the loan account was still pending.
