A female college student in Odisha, India, was harassed by a family acquaintance after a marriage proposal was rejected. The perpetrator sent obscene and threatening messages to her father’s mobile phone, posted defamatory pamphlets on her college and hostel walls, and created a fake Facebook account in her name to publish morphed nude photographs of her. As a result of this harassment, the victim suffered severe mental shock and trauma, was evicted from her hostel, and was forced to change colleges to escape the abuse. This incident has been included because the harassment directly affected the victim’s ability to continue her education, resulting in her removal from hostel accommodation and transfer to another college.
