A 22-year-old dental student in Kerala, India, died by suicide after being subjected to mental harassment, threats, and intimidation by operators of an online loan app. The platform’s operators used high-pressure recovery tactics regarding a loan of 15,000 rupees at an exorbitant interest rate. The local police subsequently registered a case of extortion and digital harassment against the online loan app.
