A group of K-12 students and their parents filed a lawsuit against educational technology company IXL Learning, alleging that the platform generated, collected, used, and shared students’ personal and tracking information without consent. The software tracked student activity during school-required use, resulting in an invasion of privacy and unauthorized exposure of personal data. A federal judge denied the company’s motion to force the dispute into private arbitration, ruling that schools cannot bind families to such terms.
