In a school district in California, United States, students using school-issued devices for homework research or playing video games were flagged by online monitoring software. School staff involved law enforcement rather than addressing the alerts directly with the students. The students, who are minors, were questioned by police and reported feeling traumatized, criminalized, and distrustful of school staff afterward. This is a personal interview.
